Chickasaw Nation Housing Insecurity
The Chickasaw Housing Insecurity Campus is a multifaceted site uplifting families and individuals in need with vital housing, community gathering, and counseling opportunities. The Chickasaw name for the project, Chuka-lakoli, means neighborhood – creating a sense of connection and belonging drove the concepts for the buildings as well as overall site. The campus includes a Community Building with a large gathering space, administrative and counseling offices, 10 suite style short-term apartments, and a 24-unit tiny home neighborhood. The design focuses on the in-between spaces and how people experience the site. At the center of the campus and the symbolic heart of the project is the open-air Pavilion that houses an abstract fire sculpture which has significant meaning to the Tribe and embodies the mission of this community building service.
